How to Catechumen a Mixed Number to a Decimal
Follow these 2 steps to catechumen a mixed number to a decimal:
- Convert the fraction to a decimal: Divide the numerator by the denominator
- Add this decimal number to the whole number part of the mixed number
A mixed number is a whole number plus a fraction. To notice the decimal form of a fraction only divide the numerator by the denominator using a calculator or long division. So add the decimal number to the whole number.
Example: Convert the mixed number vii i/4 to a decimal
- Convert the fraction to a decimal: Carve up 1 by 4
1 ÷ four = 0.25 - Add 0.25 to the whole number 7:
vii + 0.25 = vii.25
Note that this solution works even if the fraction function of the mixed number is an improper fraction.
Example: Convert the mixed number 3 nine/5 to a decimal
- Convert the fraction to a decimal: Divide 9 by 5
9 ÷ five = 1.8 - Add 1.8 to the whole number three:
3 + ane.8 = four.8
Secondary Method: Convert a Mixed Number to a Decimal by Fraction Addition
Alternatively you can convert a mixed number to a decimal by offset converting the mixed number to ii fractions, calculation them and simplifying to a decimal.
Example: Convert the mixed number 5 ii/three to a decimal
- 5 two/3 = v/1 + 2/3
- 5 two/iii = (five/1 * three/iii) + 2/iii
- 5 two/3 = fifteen/3 + 2/three
- five 2/three = 17/three
- five 2/three = 5.667
A mixed number such every bit 7 1/4 can exist converted to a decimal. Information technology is implied that 7 1/iv is really 7 + 1/4 and that 7 = 7/1, therefore we are first calculation the fraction vii/1 + 1/four. Since 4 is the denominator in the original fraction part we will use information technology every bit our mutual denominator. 7/i * 4/4 = 28/4. So, 28/4 + i/4 = 29/four. 29/4 = 29 ? iv = seven.25.
